Payments & Refunds

Refund & Cancellation Policy

How token booking payments, rent collections and any failed or duplicate transactions are refunded or cancelled on RentMitra — and how to raise a payment dispute.

Last Updated: August 16, 2026

Secure Gateway

All payments are processed by a PCI-DSS compliant partner (Cashfree Payments). We never store card or UPI PINs.

5–7 Day Refunds

Approved refunds for failed or duplicate transactions are returned to the original payment method within 5–7 business days.

Fair Disputes

A clear dispute-resolution process protects both renters and property owners on every transaction.

1Marketplace Role & Payment Flow

RentMitra is a marketplace that connects renters with property owners and authorised brokers. Payments made on the platform (booking token amounts and rent) are collected through our PCI-DSS compliant payment partner and settled to the property owner using a marketplace split settlement, with any applicable platform fee retained by RentMitra. Because settlement is routed to owners, refund eligibility and timelines depend on the transaction type described below.

2Failed, Duplicate or Erroneous Transactions

  • If your account is debited but the booking/payment is not confirmed on RentMitra, the amount is refunded to your original payment method automatically, typically within 5–7 business days.
  • Duplicate charges for the same booking or rent record are refunded in full within 5–7 business days of being identified or reported.
  • Where a payment is stuck in a pending state, we reconcile it against the gateway; confirmed captures are honoured and un-captured amounts are auto-reversed by the bank/gateway.

3Token Booking Refunds

  • Owner unable to honour a confirmed booking (double booking, property unavailable, or listing found to be misrepresented): you are entitled to a 100% refund of the token amount, processed within 5–7 business days.
  • Renter cancels within 24 hours of paying the token and before move-in/reservation is locked: the token is refundable as described on the booking screen at the time of payment.
  • Renter cancels after the reservation is locked or after the stated free-cancellation window: the token may be non-refundable, as it compensates the owner for holding the room off-market.

4Rent Payments

Rent paid through RentMitra is collected on behalf of the property owner and settled to them. Rent is generally non-refundable once successfully paid and settled, except in the case of a failed, duplicate or erroneous transaction (see Section 2). Any adjustment, waiver or partial refund of rent is at the property owner's discretion and is handled directly between the renter and the owner, with RentMitra assisting where possible.

5Cancellation of Bookings & Listing Services

  • Renters can cancel an unconfirmed booking request at any time from the My Bookings screen at no charge.
  • Owners may withdraw a listing at any time; any booking already paid for by a renter must either be honoured or fully refunded to the renter.
  • Any optional paid listing or promotion services (if offered) are governed by the pricing terms shown at purchase; unused, clearly-defined service fees may be refunded on request within the same 5–7 business-day window.
